Sega of Japan has officially announced Yakuza Zero for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Few details are known about the game aside from what platforms it is being developed on, but more info will likely come out of the Tokyo Games Show (September 18th-21st). Yakuza Zero's official teaser page can be found here.

Known as Ry? ga Gotoku in Japan, the series has remained very popular in its home country but Sega has struggled to make it a success abroad. U.S. gamers have not seen a localized title in the series since 2012's Yakuza: Dead Souls, a spin-off title that did less than favorably with consumers and critics alike.

It remains unclear of Sega will continue to localize the franchise for North America and Europe, with several titles remaining exclusive to Japan. As the series is deeply rooted in Japanese culture, many of the series' nuances have been difficult to explain to Western audiences and were ultimately cut from during localization.
