PlayStation 4 Sales Reach 10 Million

That sure sounds like a lot!

Remember when Sony had that big press conference in Miami where Jack Tretton, Shuhei Yoshida and Adam Boyes were lowered onto the stage in a cloud of smoke and announced "We're selling not 1 million, not 2 million, not 3 million, not 4 million, not 5 million, not six million, not 7 million PlayStation 4's!"?

OK, maybe I am conflating that with LeBron James and the Miami Heat, but just in case I am not, then guess what! Those guys were right (unlike LeBron) as today Sony announced TEN million consoles had been sold through to consumers at this point. Due to the murkiness of official sales numbers there is no telling how much (if any) lead that gives them this generation, but that isn't really what matters. Sales are stronger than anyone had predicted and as more games start to hit for the system we'll only see that number going up. Console gaming isn't as dead as everyone thought!

"The responses we have received for the PS4 system's unique gameplay experiences powered by the network, along with its vast game portfolio has been phenomenal, and I am absolutely delighted that PS4 was able to reach this commemorative milestone in less than 9 months," said Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. "We're so grateful for the enormous support from PlayStation gamers worldwide, and we look forward to bringing even more exciting content and services in the months ahead.

You tell 'em House! Alongside this announcement we also got an update on some new features being added in to the next big firmware update that will include the long-promised "Share Play" that should let people leap into your game at any point if they are observing a stream and help you out. Users will also be able to upload gameplay right to YouTube. Still no word on an actual suspend feature though.

Congratulations Sony, and keep up the great work!
