When I think of the array of third-party games that are going to be on offer at launch next week I think none have me more excited than Need for Speed: Rivals. Sure, it's not a new franchise, it's not a platform or generation exclusive and it doesn't even make a mean cappuccino. But man does it look fun. That's all we really want from our video games, right?

Today EA released some PS4 footage of the game in action. Below we've embedded the YouTube link but here's the rub... YouTube doesn't really do any sort of justice with all compression and junk. We saw the game at E3 and I can assure you that it looks damn fine.

More importantly is how it plays. As you can see from the video chasing is going to be more important than racing. This is definitely in the "cops and robbers" branch of the series and those have long been our favorites. The biggest change this year is going to be the seamless switching between online and offline modes and the expanded social aspect (which of course includes the titular Rivalries).

Sure, we'll still be playing Assassin's Creed and Killzone and, well, everything else but I bet we'll have that NFS disc in the drive more than anything else.
