Konami Unleashes Zombie Apocalypse
A twin-stick shooter featuring zombies? Well, they certainly know what's hot these days.

Konami (or Konami Digital Entertainment if you want to be all formal about it) certainly can't be accused of failing to capitalize (at least in some way) on current trends. Twin-stick shooters have become the downloadable game flavor du jour, and competition like Super Stardust HD (arguably the best example of a twin stick shooter on the market) apparently isn't scaring the Japanese uberdeveloper/publisher away?
Their secret ingredient? Zombies. Games like Left 4 Dead, Dead Rising and the remakes of classic zombie movies over the years have helped elevate the formerly b-movie fodder into the public consciousness and, as a result, zombies are hot these days. Put the two together and you have Zombie Apocalypse, a bloody 4-player test of survival when humanity is falling to undead swarms by the dozens.
"Konami is committed to providing original, quality entertainment through our diverse offering of console, handheld and downloadable content," posits Konami VP of Marketing Anthony Crouts. "As a downloadable title, Zombie Apocalypse delivers all the fun and action of a console game at a fraction of the cost."
Developed by Nihilistic, who have had a bit of a rocky console road in years past (their last game, Conan, didn't really impress as much as it frustrated), but perhaps the smaller scale of things will mean a more bite-sized bit of fun. We had the chance to go hands-on with the PS3 build of the game, and our impressions can be found right here. We'll have more as soon as we can take another spin at gunning down the living dead... that or when we can steal a preview build of the game from Konami.
