Midway's TNA iMPACT! To Hit Store Shelves

Cup-cake is coming for you.

In-ring action.

Towards the end of the week the latest Midway brawler for the Playstation 3 should be hitting store shelves with a tasty wrestling flavor. TNA iMPACT! is the first Midway game to be based on the (inexplicably) increasingly popular TNA Impact Wrestling - the franchise where the moves are as fast and loose as the rules of capitalization. Midway have invested "countless hours" in motion-capture sessions with the wrestlers themselves in order to lend that little extra touch of authenticity to the sweaty spectacle of 'glorified falling over'.

Or that could be falling over to glory? The game features a story mode in which the player guides a fallen hero of the circuit back to fame as the TNA champion. This may well be a harrowing tale of redemption and catharsis told via the medium of glistening biceps and hoarse grunting, or it may turn out to be an opportunity to create the fattest character possible, call him 'Cup-Cake' and watch him throw people across the six-sided ring. My money's on the latter.

Once you've squeezed the last life-affirming drop out of the story mode you should still be able to find some joy in the other game modes - including the signature "Ultimate X" matches and an opportunity to take Cup-Cake online to grapple with your equally sweaty chums from the comfort of your own sofa. Quite.

With an apparently greater focus on action and spectacle rather than submission moves this release should hopefully offer more than an experience which invariably dissolves into two glistening tubes of sinew rolling around the ring in an attempt to keep the other down.

Whether or not the likes of Kurt Angle, Christian Cage, Booker T, and Sting can deliver Total Non-stop Action will be yours to decide come the end of the week.
