On Saturday, Capcom and Namco Bandai let us in on two new titles that are in development: Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter. Today, we know about the latter title.

In development by Namco Bandai, Tekken X Street Fighter is set to bring the two classic arcade fighting franchises together. Unlike the previously mentioned Capcom-developed title, Tekken X Street Fighter is set in the Tekken universe, which may be a bit unusual for Capcom fans.

Don't fret, fanboys, because things aren't as drastic as they appear. Ryu and Ken will simply be undergoing a physical change, being made into a Tekken universe version of themselves. All of their standard and super moves will remain intact, so you can spam your fireballs just like you normally would (one assumes). Unfortunately, no game mechanics or other details were released.

It is rather interesting that both Capcom and Namco Bandai are developing two different fighting games at once with two different approaches. In a quote given by Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada, he made an interesting remark about the collaborations:

The Street Fighter and Tekken development teams have a great relationship. However, I see this new project not as a collaboration, but as the competition of the century between two legendary fighting game franchises.

An unusual take on the matter, but it the quote does ring a bit deeper than it may have intended. These two titles will (despite what little we know about them) compete in the same market together, unless their launch windows are spaced out greatly.

Will these collaborations bring new depth to these mainstays of arcade fighting, or will they simply be commercial tie-ins the likes of which we've seen in the console release of Soulcalibur II? We will keep you posted on the development of both titles as they hit our inbox!
