EA Takes To The Slopes Again With SSX: Deadly Descents

It's tricky to make a sequel... to make a sequel that's right on time...

Did you know that we have snow on the ground six months of the year here at the North-West branch of the TPS North-Western offices? Or that our former (and soon to be reoccupied) North-East branch of the TPS North-Eastern offices was located right next door to the headquarters of snowboard industry leaders Burton? Suffice it to say, here at TPS, we take our snowboarding seriously, and when we want to seriously play a serious snowboarding game, we turn to the SSX series and drop a few dookies in our pants.

Many wondered if the thrill was lost forever when the series went dormant and nary a sound was heard from anyone as the years went by in the new generation, but today EA is making us (potentially) proud with the announcement of SSX: Deadly Descents

“An entire genre was born from the original SSX a decade ago, and it’s time to reboot one of the most popular franchises of all-time in an unpredictable and unexpected way,” said Peter Moore, President, EA SPORTS. “Fans have been begging for this since the launch of this generation of consoles, and we have an experience that will be worth the wait. This franchise has always been about racing, tricks, characters and fun – SSX: Deadly Descents will deliver all of that, and more, on a global scale, with rich online experiences, and with the sense of adventure never before imagined on a snowboard.”

The new SSX looks to take on a darker tone in earlier media, showing none of the bright colors and upbeat rhythms of the earlier games. The story purports to be an epic yarn of man vs. nature, as a team of riders will be competing to be the first to board down the most treacherous mountains "Nature" can antagonize them with. Action will take place all around the world in the Himalayas, Antarctica and other cold spots. While all this "story" and "struggle" have us a little wary, EA has promised the while the first goal is to survive, you still have to look good doing it. We'll keep an eye on this one for sure!
