[Gone Gold] April 20th

Sacred Hack 'n Slash Dynasties Ahead

As we ramp back up into the busier parts of the year, many games will be announced as having "gone gold," so many, in fact, that we might just get away with being extra lazy and lumping them all into a story at the end of the week.

For the uninitiated, a game going gold means it's effectively done. The final version of the code has been pressed to a master disc (back in the day it was actually gold colored, hence the name) and has been sent off to be mass produced (pending a final screening, test and approvals process from the big three, mind you). In most cases, this means the game will be hitting stores in a matter of weeks, so to keep you abreast of when things are hitting, we'll plug it in here, possibly throwing in a quote or two if a publisher is feeling especially verbose.

And now, for this week's fun:

[PlayStation 3]

[Sacred 2: Fallen Angel] | Release: May 12th
Sacred 2 made a few headlines a couple of weeks ago when we received a preview build only to be told shortly after that the game was being delayed until May here in the US.

Yesterday, cdv Software Entertainment USA and Ascaron Entertainment (who sadly just announced they were shutting down) finally announced the gold status for their hack and slash RPG. If you want you can go back and read our impressions here or wait for the full review which is going to hit the site soon. If you like top down RPG classics like the Diablo games on the PC then you should definitely keep an eye on this game.

[PlayStation Portable]

[Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce] | Release: April 28th
If you're one of those people that roll their eyes every time you hear about a Dynasty Warriors game, move along, nothing to see here. If you're still of the hacky slashy persuasion, though, you'll find that your familiar Warriors games are a little different on the PSP this time. A main town? Stuff to buy and trade? A mission board? Evidently KOEI saw the success of the Monster Hunter series on the PSP and decided they wanted to get in on the party. It's a good thing, too, since this might actually shut up the "hurrrr, all the Dynasty Warriors games are the same!" naysayers. Or at least one of 'em.

Publishers: Want to make sure we've got your games in our Gone Gold blurbs? Just kick over those press releases or a note from the team to GoneGold (at) TotalPlayStation (dot) com and we'll make sure they get tossed into the rotation.
