America's Favorite Rock Band to Perform 20-Hour Concert in Times Square
Energizer? I ‘ardly knew ‘er!
Published: November 17, 2009
There are some days when, after a hard day at work, you want to do nothing more than crash in front of Rock Band with a couple of friends. There are other (perhaps less frequent) days when you’d rather spend twenty finger-breaking hours on a stage playing Rock Band and being treated to the full rock star treatment. Well, they say rock star treatment; as it’s an event organised by Energiser batteries there’s only the slimmest of chances that you’ll be given a rucksack of cocaine and three hundred adoring groupies (if this is the case I’m changing brands immediately).
Yes, as a way to advertise the extra 20 hour play time when using their new ADVANCED LITHIUM batteries (ComparedtoEnergizer®MAX®.Resultsvarybyplayand/orusagepatterns) those crafty folks at Energizer have teamed up with Rock Band and set up a competition for one group to rock out for 20 hours straight in some cruel parody of what it is like to be successful and adored. After encouraging aspiring bands gamers to bother their friends and family on Facebook, the band group of gamers with the biggest number of fans was awarded the opportunity to experience the shallow facsimile of fame on offer. The lucky group in question was “Jimmy Twinkle and the BAD” who got to experience something like fame while playing in something like a band. I’d point out the irony of learning to sell out before actually getting anywhere, but it’s just too dispiriting.
The press release also notes that the batteries have a ten year shelf life but neglects to mention whether a separate competition was held to see who could spend a decade in a darkened room without food or human company. I’m guessing not, but given the current trend for advertising stunts, it can’t be far away.
As well as the 20 hour Rock Band spectacular, several online ‘Battle’ events have been held, with the final launching on the 20th of November. The ultimate winner will be treated to the entire Rock Band DLC catalogue and some branded Rock Star/Energizer swag. Runners up will also net a load of branded swag and some DLC, while every entrant will be entered in a sweepstakes to win all sorts of Rock Band kit. The lucky chaps.
