[Rock Block] September 18th
Mostly Schlock
Published: September 18, 2009
With all these fancy pants music games offering new songs almost every week, we figured we'd come up with a quick, easy (and lazy) way to consolidate all the news of what you'll find on the PlayStation Store and in the games' own stores (if they have 'em) each and every Thursday. Handy? Yeah, we know, but that's just the way we roll.
Bear in mind that this includes both the obvious titles like the various Rock Bands and Guitar Heroes out there, but can also include straight karaoke affairs Sony's own SingStar titles or the Karaoke Revolution games too, not to mention stuff from other publishers that fit neatly into this category. No, there won't always be stuff for those other games, but at the very least, the tidal wave of DLC can be easily managed right here. Bear in mind that in many of the bigger games, the DLC will work for both the newest and previous entries into the series, so just because you don't have the latest and greatest versions, we'll still be able to keep you up to date.
Yes, we love you too.

You know what we don't get enough of? Lego Rock Band news! So here's some to make up or it!
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and MTV Games today revealed that LEGO® Rock Band™ will feature the likeness of Iggy Pop, legendary rock innovator and former Stooges front man, as a LEGO minifigure. Fans can play as Iggy Pop while singing his song “The Passenger,” which will be included in the play list. In addition, Rock Band pupils the world over can learn how to play the game as the iconic star’s voice walks players through the tutorial.

Here is an interesting bit of news that might make real musicians a bit happier about this whole music-genre game thing...
Sheet Music Plus, the nation’s leading online provider of sheet music, wants to help gamers channel their passion into becoming active musicians. Whether it’s for Rock Band, Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero 2 or Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Sheet Music Plus has the sheet music they need to graduate from rocking in front of the TV to rocking the stage.
“Today’s kids often get more exposure to music from video games and movies than from any other source, and it would be great if this gaming trend can be a gateway back to learning to play live music,” said Keith Cerny, CEO of Sheet Music Plus. “By offering up sheet music for the songs they are exposed to via these blockbuster gaming titles, there is an incentive for them to try their hand at actually performing these extremely popular tunes.”

[DJ Hero]
More and more news floods in every day about DJ Hero. Still waiting for the announcement that they have brought DJ AM back from the dead so he can spin for the final marketing push. Too soon? Ask me about my Patrick Swayze jokes!
For the first time ever in a video game, GRAMMY® Award winning DJ’s and producing duo, Daft Punk, will start the party right with Activision Publishing, Inc.’s DJ Hero™ on October 27, 2009. Featuring 93 exclusive on-disc mixes from some of the biggest acts in hip-hop, pop, rock and dance, players will be able to test their DJing chops as virtual recreations of the renowned twosome and experience their iconic sounds in eleven original mixes, including two signature “Megamixes,” using their music. Among the mixes in the game featuring Daft Punk are:
* Daft Punk “Around the World” vs. Young MC “Bust A Move”
* Daft Punk “Da Funk” vs. NASA “Strange Enough ft. Karen O, ODB and Fatlip”
* Daft Punk “Da Funk” vs. Queen “Another One Bites the Dust”
* Daft Punk “Robot Rock” vs. Hashim “Al-Naafiysh (The Soul)” – Produced and mixed by The Scratch Perverts
* Daft Punk “Robot Rock” vs. Queen “We Will Rock You”
* Daft Punk “Short Circuit” vs. Boogie Down Productions “Jack Of Spades”
* Daft Punk “Technologic” vs. Gary Numan “Cars”

“Partnering with Daft Punk is a rare opportunity in any medium and we are extremely honored to have worked with them so closely on integrating into DJ Hero in such a compelling way,” said Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Guitar Hero®. “This is the first time in a video game that fans will have this kind of direct interaction with Daft Punk while also experiencing never-before-released mixes that feature some of their most popular tracks. It’s amazing working with Daft Punk as they are the quintessential electronic music act known around the world for their unique style and music.”
DAFT PUNK has sold out?!?! Couldn't they have at least used the sweet track from the WipeOut XL soundtrack?? My view of quirky French techno artists will never be the same...
