[Rock Block] August 28th
Stop Making Cents! (One Dollar and Ninety-Nine Cents)
Published: August 28, 2009
With all these fancy pants music games offering new songs almost every week, we figured we'd come up with a quick, easy (and lazy) way to consolidate all the news of what you'll find on the PlayStation Store and in the games' own stores (if they have 'em) each and every Thursday. Handy? Yeah, we know, but that's just the way we roll.
Bear in mind that this includes both the obvious titles like the various Rock Bands and Guitar Heroes out there, but can also include straight karaoke affairs Sony's own SingStar titles or the Karaoke Revolution games too, not to mention stuff from other publishers that fit neatly into this category. No, there won't always be stuff for those other games, but at the very least, the tidal wave of DLC can be easily managed right here. Bear in mind that in many of the bigger games, the DLC will work for both the newest and previous entries into the series, so just because you don't have the latest and greatest versions, we'll still be able to keep you up to date.
Yes, we love you too.
[Rock Band 2]
A FIVE-PACK of David Byrne's legendary band, Talking Heads, and the usual assortment of nineties and aughties bands. You know, they WILL run out of songs one day....but not next week! Hit up the Rock Band store on September 3rd for...
[Talking Heads]
“And She Was”
“Crosseyed & Painless”
“Girlfriend is Better”
“Once in a Lifetime”
“Take Me to the River”
[The Jam]
“A Town Called Malice”
“Going Underground”
[Oasis]
“Supersonic” (Live)
[Avenged Sevenfold]
“Bat Country””
[Rage Against the Machine]
“Guerilla Radio” (hooray for Tony Hawk 2 soundtrack!)
Price: Single Songs - $1.99 | Talking Heads Pack - $8.49
[Rock Band Unplugged]
Handheld users don't feel left out... or feel a little left out because you get just two tracks, as usual!
[Franz Ferdinand]
“Lucid Dreams”
[Guns N' Roses]
“Riad N’ The Bedouins”
Price: Single Songs - $1.99
No announcements of new track for Guitar Hero World Tour this week (yet), but of course there is some Guitar Hero 5 news!
Joining the creepy ranks of dead celebrities making an appearance in a guitar game, Activision announced that Kurt Cobain of the original grunge rock band Nirvana (you might know them as the band that sort of eventually spawned the Foo Fighters... thanks for offing yourself Kurt!) will be a playable character, marking the second dead rocker to be confirmed (Johnny Cash). Kurt will play two of the singles you could NOT stop hearing if you were around in the early nineties, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Lithium". I for one feel a bit creeped out.
Not to be outdone, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy will ALSO be appearing as a playable character in Guitar Hero 5, of course playing one of the bands hits, "Plug in Baby" as part of the 85 song setlist the game will ship with. I've lost count of the number of artists who are appearing in Guitar Hero 5, but honestly I miss the generic hot chick and British dude I could rock out with way back in Guitar Hero 1. Man, those were the days!
Check back next week for more info on what tired tracks are being added to your favorite music game, and to find out what DJ sold out and has made mixes for DJ Hero. See you then!
