Resi 5's Versus Mode Gets Dated
What's that? You want moooore Resident Evil 5 action? Fine, shoot your friends in the face. Details inside.

Somehow we missed passing along the news that Capcom was working on some seriously meaty add-on content for our favorite former survival horror series. Sure, Resident Evil 5 may have finally tipped over the fence toward pure action after teetering on it with Resident Evil 4, but at least Capcom is embracing it completely. Oh, we've still got a major beef with them trying to market the game as scary (it's not. At all.), but the upcoming Versus Mode expansion pack at least gives us more pew-pew for our money... well, additional money.
For those that haven't yet been filled in (and we apologize, but, uh, better late than never, right?), the Versus Mode downloadable content will set you back a mere five bucks ($4.99 for those that don't add that last penny mentally), and includes two new modes: Slayer's Rule and Suvivor's Rule. Piggybacking off the characters and unlocked goodies found in RE5's Mercenaries mode (it's unlocked once you've plowed through the main story campaign), Slayer's Rule is sort of a cooperative-while-competitive version of Mercinaries; gun down not-zombies together with up to three other online buddies for major points, fun and profit (okay, maybe just the first two), while Survivor's Rule is sort of Resi 5's take on straight deathmatch.
In case you're wondering (like we are), how the hell deathmatch is going to work when you can't move while aiming at a target or reloading, there's really not long to wait to find out. The Versus Mode DLC will hit the PlayStation Network tomorrow, to match with the 360 version day and date. This is actually a fairly rare occurrence; most content almost invariably drops on Thursdays with the rest of the PlayStation Store updates, but apparently Capcom and Sony are so buddy-buddy that they've been given the green light for an early release.
Mark your calendars, kids: April 7th (yes, that's tomorrow) is the day you'll be able to plug some Majini or some friends/enemies. Maybe this will finally wash the decidedly non-scary taste out of our mouths after our rather disappointed review.
