Resident Evil 15th Anniversey Coming To Japan Only
Be prepared to import this collection, since it is (currently) a Japan-exclusive.
Published: September 19, 2011
Appropos of nothing on the Capcom Unity blog came the announcement of something that Japan is rubbing our global nose in: the 15th Anniversary re-release of the main story Resident Evil games. Why are they telling us? Clearly because naming a game "Resident Evil 3: Nemesis" wasn't insulting enough.
Yes, that name is dumb. Stop fighting it.
The collection -which runs roughly $100 USD at the current exchange rate, or 7800 yen- will be exclusive to Japan and purchasable through E-Capcom site. Included in the package will be some stickers, collectible pins, and several of the main-story Biohazard games, including the following:
Biohazard: Director's Cut
Biohazard 2 (Leon and Claire's discs)
Biohazard 3: Last Escape (A.K.A. "Nemesis")
Biohazard Code: Veronica HD
Biohazard 4 HD
In addition to special collector's packaging, there is a sleeve for a copy of Resident Evil 5 (either edition). Finally, the box set contains a copy of the original soundtracks to both Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica. While these games are available in various forms now; with the exception of RE5, all of these games are are available through the North American PlayStation Network Store.
Though there currently are no public plans to bring this box set to retail outside of Japan, you can be certain that they will be available through import sites and other various avenues. It was mentioned that Capcom Unity will be holding a contest to giveaway one copy to a lucky recipient (as well as some other goodies, like "dolls").
While Capcom has been known to re-release the same product several times with minimal updates (most recently being Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3), it is hard to remember the last time they put together a full-blown collection that spanned the majority of a franchise. That is to say, there are some noticible ommissions from this collector's set (and for good reason). However, by and large, this is the most complete collection of the series seen to date. With the main storyline over at the conclusion of Resident Evil 5, many in the game press have questioned where the franchise will go next. Aside from a re-release of their past titles, the Resident Evil story may very well be over.
If that highly-unlikely scenario is true, we hope Dino Crisis will get an HD remake... am I right?
