Rock Band and games like it have taken the gaming industry by storm. You need to have lived in a hole or under a rock (and a large, sound proof rock at that) for the past several years to have missed it. Rock Band quickly forged it's own genre in the video game industry and scooped up as many awards and honors as it could along the way. And the good people at Harmonix Music Systems show no signs of slowing down! Their take-no-prisoners approach has been to include as many different types of musical genres as they possible can - cramming in artists like Jimi Hendrix, The Who, AC/DC and Green Day (who are all exclusive to the Rock Band title I might add). Then came the blitzkrieg of additional Rock Band games with other killer content: The Beatles: Rock Band, Lego Rock Band and Green Day: Rock Band just to name a few. You can't argue with a game that has been declared the biggest cultural impact on music since the CD!

That all being said, the "achilles heel" to Rock Band had been the hip hop genre. 1,600 songs are available for down through their online store, and not a single one of them is hip hop. That is... until the Doggfather himself came along! On September 3, 2010 Harmonix and MTV Games were thrilled to announced that the 12 time Grammy Award nominee, Snoop Dogg, would be the first hip hop artist to join the legions of Rock Band. Seven of Snoop's biggest songs, spanning several albums, will be made available on September 7, 2010 with an eighth song becoming available on September 14, 2010. The list includes:

· "Beautiful"

· "Drop It Like It's Hot"

· "Ridin' In My Chevy"

· "Sensual Seduction"

· "Snoop's Upside Ya Head"

· "Tha Shiznit"

· "That's Tha Homie" (available on September 14)

· "Who Am I (What's My Name)?"

Snoop Dogg, who has been a dominating voice in the rap industry since his debut in 1993, had this to say of his newest accomplishment, "I consider myself an OG gamer, and to be chosen as the first hip hop artist to appear in Rock Band...well, it doesn't get any better than that, ya dig?!?" With his first album, Doggystyle, going quadruple platinum and nine subsequent albums hitting various spots on the Billboard Top Ten, there is little doubt that Snoop is the right man to get the distinction of being the first hip hop artist on Rock Band.

So keep your eyes peeled on September 7, 2010 when Snoop will on da Playstizzle fo shizzle!
