Ubisoft Announces Outland For 2011
Light vs Darkness... on a platformer!
Published: September 4, 2010
Ubisoft announced the newest addition to their action lineup: Outland. The platformer is being developed by Finnish company Housemarque, creators of the successful Super Stardust HD back in 2008. Outland will feature the epic landscape of a world torn apart by yet undetailed chaos. Ubisoft tells us, "Outland puts players in the middle of a world of balance and chaos where their efforts allow them to bridge the ancient divide, or doom the world to destruction."
With one of the inspirations for Outland being the Prince of Persia series, gameplay promises to be action packed. Early details talk of swordplay, running, jumping and dodging traps (yup, sounds like Prince of Persia). "Each player's adventure will take them between light and darkness and force them to adapt to an ever-changing world." The concept of light versus darkness is inspired by the classic shoot 'em up Ikaruga (released both in arcades and on Gamecube). Ubisoft also promises us unique high-def graphics (the first screenshots seem to support this) and a soundtrack composed by Ari Pulkkinen, credited for music and sound effect development on the platform/puzzle game Trine.
Sneak peeks will be available at PAX in Seattle (September 3 - 5, 2010) where Outland will be on display at Ubisoft's booth. Outland will be released on the PlayStation Network in "early 2011."
