Atlus Merges With Parent Company, Dispels Doubt
The future is uncertain, but not if Atlus has anything to say about it.

Atlus co., Ltd., the Japanese publishing company, has come under a lot of doubt recently due to a merger. Index Holdings, the parent company of Atlus, will be dissolving Atlus and plans to take a more forward business approach. There was almost mention of "synergy", so you know that they mean business.
Shinichi Suzuki, President and CEO of Atlus U.S.A, had this to say:
"Recent news out of Japan that Index Holdings, the parent company of Atlus Co., Ltd. (and its wholly-owned private subsidiary Atlus U.S.A, Inc.), would be merging the Atlus brand into itself has created uncertainty as to the future of Atlus and its games."
The merger is an attempt to make Atlus a stronger company both stateside and in Japan. We recently saw a similar announcement out of a rival publisher, Nippon Ichi Software. NIS began to cut back on games they chose to take on, in hopes to bring stronger and more quality (and therefore more profitable) titles to Japan and abroad.
Atlus was established in April 1986 and has become a one of a few smaller Japanese publishing houses that have brought many beloved titles to the US. Atlus is probably best known for the Persona series. Some, however, may recall that they published Disgaea: Hour Of Darkness before NIS began publishing their own games in the US.
We will keep you posted if Atlus' lineup changes in any way as this new plan gets underway.
