Are You Man Enough for NBA2K11's Jordan Challenge?

Michael Jordan is, but he can go off the roof, through the window, off the floor, off the scoreboard, and still hit nothing but net.

A while back (as in a whole decade ago), a fairly big deal was made of the fact that EA Sports' now-defunct (at least in name) NBA Live series had scored Michael Jordan as part of their roster. If you could best him in a one-on-one game, he was yours to do with as you saw fit -- even if that meant putting him on whatever terrible or sacrilegious team you wanted.

That was a big deal. MJ had been absent for years because of licensing rights, and his return to playable form was seen as something of a coup for EA. But again, that was a while back, and the erstwhile Jumpman hasn't been a major fixture of a rountball sim in a while now. Enter NBA 2K11, which not only signed the cross-sports superstar to appear in the game, but has him as the cover athlete.

Oh, but it's not just His Tongueness' visage that will be included with the game. Yes, he'll be playable, and yes, he'll probably have the insane stats he deserves, but 2K Sports is clearly making the most of the partnership deal. Case in point: The Jordan Challenge, which will allow you to, naturally, be like Mike as he was among the ‘85-'86, '89-'90, '90-'91, '94-'95, '95-'96, '96-'97, and '97-'98 Chicago Bulls rosters. That's nice, of course, but it doesn't really define Michael Jordan in his prime for that, you'll get to try to recreate some of his most noteworthy on-court moments; kicking the flu to the curb to spank the Jazz in Game 6 of the '97 Finals, his final game wif da Bullssss on 6/14/98 (never forget, sniff) or replicate the March 1990 drubbing where he somehow managed to help put a whopping sixty-nine point lead on the Cavs.

But wait, there's more! ...Apparently.

"Fans of the series are going to be thrilled to know that in NBA 2K11 Michael Jordan is much, much more than just a cover athlete," gushes 2K Sports' VP of Marketing, Mr. Jason Argent, as he explains further. "We're excited to start talking about the ways that Michael will be used in the game and there's still a lot more to come."

Hear that? That was the girlish scream of glee coming from the tiny, trapped version of ourselves back when we still cared about basketball. Even years after his retirement... and re-retirement... and re-re-retirement, Michael Jordan still has the unmatched power to get us all giddy about seeing (and replicating) his exploits on the court. All that's left now is to line up Larry Bird and McDonald's to let us actually try "The Showdown" in all its awesomeness.

Of course, the real question is whether MJ's inclusion will actually allow for the most impossible feat of all: getting us clueless sports sim blunderbusses to actually finish a single game without losing by 100 points to the brain-dead AI difficulty setting. And yes, we know what an actual blunderbuss is, shaddap or we'll pew-pew you with 'em.
