The sequel to American McGee's Alice is coming in 2011.

When American McGee's Alice was released to much critical acclaim ten years ago, I was too young to play it. I remember reading the review in an issue of my beloved Computer Gaming Monthly, a little terrified by, and yet weirdly attracted to the nightmarish version of Lewis Carroll's famous book and character, Alice. While I managed to grow up in the meantime, I have to shamefully admit that I never got around to playing the game. Maybe it was because I secretly hoped for the original to be re-released on the PSN or XBLA, or maybe I was waiting for a complete remake. Well, I didn't get either, but a sequel doesn't sound too bad now, does it?
“Alice is a classic fiction, infinitely rich with memorable characters, places and experiences. Our approach to Alice: Madness Returns takes this colorful world and reinvents it with psychotic personalities and pervasive insanity” explained American McGee, Spicy Horse Games Co-Founder and Senior Creative Director. “We can’t wait to share our vision with Alice in Wonderland fans and gamers around the world.”
Ten years have passed since the events of the original came to a conclusion, and Alice has spent most of her time institutionalized since. Despite not being fully cured, she is released to the care of a psychiatrist, who is willing to help her fight the hallucinations that she is still struggling with. Uncovering the truth about her family's mysterious death might just be the key to regaining her sanity.
“In 2000, we launched a cult hit on the PC with American McGee’s Alice. Ten years later, I’m pleased to announce American is back on board leading the top-rate talent at Spicy Horse Games to create this sequel,” said David DeMartini, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Partners. “The Alice in Wonderland fiction continues to be a fan favorite all over the world. We can’t wait for them to experience the next chapter with Alice: Madness Returns.”
Find out if you get to cut open Johnny Depp's throat as soon as the game hits the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC sometime next year. We'll keep you updated.
