Old Fat PS3 owners can rejoice!

Kevin Butler might have some explaining to do later, but the network seems like it is functioning for everyone again. By the by, I KNOW how you can read the title and it is intentional. Sam.

Sony may have fixed the problem for us non-slim users as many members of the PlayStation Network (myself included) are able to log back in. Although I have seen no official tweets or blog posts at the time of this article's posting, everything may be back to normal.

According the the PlayStation Blog, the problem is rooted in the system's clock, which just can't handle a leap year. Interestingly, the Y2K bug was a huge issue some 10 years ago for Windows users but not for Apple addicts. It seems like Microsoft got all of their clock issues sorted out as there have been no signs (yet) of any similar problems on the Xbox 360. Don't worry, fanboys, I am sure MS will screw up again somewhere so your little flame war can continue with ammo for both sides.

Personally, I don't care.

Be sure to check in with the PlayStation Blog periodically to see if it truly is okay to use your console again. As for now, I suggest those cautious few of you to continue following Sony's advice and do not use your PlayStation 3 consoles until this crisis is officially averted. There has been some rumblings when this issues began some 24-hours ago that trophy data, among other things, were read as corrupted by the system.

It is always best to play it safe when it comes to trophies, especially if you are in the TotalPlayStation.com Trophy Hunt (sponsored by freemantim).
