Batman : Arkham Asylum Gets Into the Guiness Book of World Records

Man, they'll let anyone in these days...

Does anyone own a complete Guiness Book of World Records? No? I didn't think so, since the Guiness Book of World Records must be like the Encyclopedia Galactica that preceeded the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and probably takes up several moons of Jupiter at this point. How else to explain that Batman : AA has been awarded a Guinness World Record for the ‘Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever’. First off, this really seems like a highly subjective record on quite a few levels. How do you measure critical acclaim? Apparently on Metacritic scores. How do you define a Superhero game? You know, I'm not sure... How can a game that has only been out a week (2 days technically) already be declared the most ANYTHING ever? They haven't even factored in the TPS review yet, for crissakes!

Apparently at some point the game had achieved an average of a 91.67 on Metacritic (it is currently listed as a 91, which would indicate that the score has dropped below 91.5 I think) and apparently no one thinks that might go down ever. Apparently someone decided the Guiness Book of World Records needed a "Most Critically Acclaimed Super-Hero Game Ever" category. Apparently the Guiness Book of World Records is a total joke. Maybe I'm being hard on them, as they sure do seem to take this seriously. Look at this quote by some clown over at Guiness...

Gaz Deaves from Guinness World Records states, “We are so pleased to be awarding Batman: Arkham Asylum a Guinness World Record. It is a fantastic new game and due to the reaction of gaming experts we believe it has a well deserved place in the Guinness World Records book.”

Yeah, well deserved indeed. There isn't even a game it took over, since they just created this category yesterday. I challenge our loyal TPS readers to do a little research and come up with another "superhero" game that had a higher metacritic score. Go! Also, I am handing out a TPS World Record for Most Frivilous Award Givers to, yep, the Guiness Book of World Records!
