[E3 2008] Rock Band 2 Details
The year of the rhythm game is upon us.
Published: July 14, 2008
Harmonix, MTV Games, and Electronic Arts are ready to take even more of your money in the form of Rock Band 2. And when all is said and done, you will happily give it to them.
Rock Band 2 hopes to raise the bar just a couple more notches on the totem pole with a host of new features that are certain to make your head spin. The developers went into the project with the belief that it was better to refine an already stellar package than bog the game down in unnecessary complexity. Looks like it worked. Rock Band will support a completely open platform for third party instruments, most notably Mad Catz Premier Guitar Controllers, Cymbal Expansion Pack, and Professional ION Alesis Drum sets.
There are also a host of new modes (and refinement to previous modes) for new and old players alike. Customizable Set Lists in Quickplay mode, World Tour mode (with an online component), Tour Challenges, Battle of the Bands, and complete backwards compatibility with all of your previous downloaded music make it easier to jump right into the fray. There's even a Disc Export feature, allowing players to export all of their Rock Band disc-based music for use with Rock Band 2.
The soundtrack itself will feature over 100 Songs (80 on Disc, 20 available via download for free), with bands ranging from Motorhead to Modest Mouse. Rock Band 2 will also usher in a whole host of firsts: first video game to have AC/DC music, first video game to have Bob Dylan music, debut of Axl Rose's Chinese Democracy album track "Shackler's Revenge." This game has it all.
Brand new instruments are set to hit the package as well, with a new Fender Stratocaster Controller that has the authentic look and feel and a wireless drum set that is both quieter and more sensitive. Of course, a microphone will join the bunch.
Rock Band 2 is set to make its debut on Xbox 360, with a PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and Wii version avaiable later in the year.
Looks like the year of rhythm games yet again!
