Full Speed Ahead! PS3 Sales Increase By More Than 135%
After a stellar showing at this year's E3 and a $100 price drop, the Playstation 3 is living the good life.

In a stark contrast to Sony's E3 2006 keynote presentation, this year brought nothing but acclaim and success to the company. The proof is in the pudding: according to internal data, Sony is reporting an increase in PS3 sales since the price drop announcement on July 9th that is more than double the previous rates. Overall, PlayStation brand hardware sales are up 161% while software experienced a less impressive increase of 15%. That's sure to change this fall and in early 2008 when the more anticipated titles arrive on shelves. Before the price drop was announced in early July, sales of the PS3 rose by 21% in the month of June with a total of 98,469 units sold (NPD).
Jack Tretton, president and CEO of SCEA, had this to say about the extra cash showing up in Sony's pockets: "The new price on the 60 GB PS3, coupled with our very strong software showing from E3, is certainly paying dividends in terms of impressive sales across the board at retail,".
Tretton went on to remind gamers (and perhaps potential buyers) that there's a ton of software in the works that'll be released shortly, stating "This jump in sales bodes very well for us heading into the fall as we launch an impressive arsenal of hardware and software, leading off with the new 80 GB PS3 in August along with the unveiling of highly anticipated games such as Lair and Warhawk. That will be followed by Heavenly Sword in September and six more exclusive first-party PS3 games in October, including Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction."
