You really can't make this stuff up.

I remember when the first details about a Persona fighting game were coming out last August. Forum goers were freaking out over the possibilities and the swell of hype was massive. That's for good reason, though, because Persona 4 received universal praise. In fact, our own Sam Bishop gave the game a 10/10.

Enter Persona 4 Arena. It was teased, hinted at, and even unveiled at last year's Tokyo Game Show. Just about the only thing we didn't know is if it would make its way to North America and, if it did, when we could throw those discs into our PS3s. Well, now we have a rough timetable of sometime this summer.

"The Persona series has had tremendous success in North America, and Persona 4 in particular opened the series up to wider audiences than ever before," said Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Atlus. "Now we're looking to expand Persona even further by teaming up with a very strong partner, Arc System Works, to move the franchise outside of the RPG genre and develop its potential in new and exciting ways."

Arc System Works, for those of you who don't know, are the brilliant minds behind Guilty Gear and BlazBlue. Fans of Persona needn't worry, their series is in more than capable hands.

Arena will be a 2D fighter and bring hand-drawn, HD fighters with over-the-top special effects. It will feature characters from both Persona 4 as well as Persona 3. Atlus claims that this will be the biggest and most noteworthy expansion of the series to date. We'll just have to see but needless to say, we're all just as excited as you are.
