E-Sports Breaking New Barriers
One Million people are playing on Virgin gaming.

Do you know who the industry leader in online competitive gaming is? No, it's not your little cousin who plays 23 hours of Modern Warfare 3 every day. It's Virgin Gaming, a little group that recently celebrated their millionth registered member.
A few interesting facts Virgin wants you to know:
- To date, over 7 MILLION dollars in prizes have been awarded in their online competitions
- Members spend an average of 72 MINUTES competing against other gamers every day
- In those 72 minutes a day they have found time to send out over 4 MILLION challenges to each other
The way they've been able to achieve those numbers is by taking the e-sport straight into the home and eschewing the rigid boundaries of a hastily erected quonset hut stocked with Xbox 360s and HDTVs. Now up-and-coming gamers can register and join right from the couch, bypassing the one barrier to entry preventing every Tom(fool), Dick(head) and Hair(y dude) from flooding the scene. As you might expect, competition can range from nonexistent all the way up to existential.
"We knew we were on to something and that our service had significant potential, we just didn't realize it would take off as quickly as it did," said Rob Segal, CEO of Virgin Gaming. "Our team continues to evolve the experience on a daily basis, and user feedback has been a key component in our upgrades. The responses have been resoundingly insightful and positive, so we’re very excited for our current direction and what the future holds, including the expansion of the biggest and best tournaments for mobile and social games.”
Oh good, I can't wait for the third annual Farmville Invitational!
If you are interested in signing up, the current tournaments are all revolving around EA Sports franchises Madden 12, NHL 12 and FIFA 12. If those float your boat, go get paid for being played!
