Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Gets Three DLC Packs

Criterion loves supporting their games and we love them for it!

Last year, there weren't many that expected Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit to be the best racing game to come out. Most had anointed Gran Turismo 5 as perhaps the racing game of forever (jury is still out, Polyphony Digital is working hard). I had the unique experience of reviewing Hot Pursuit after playing GT5 which allowed me to make some comparisons between the two. I chose the breakneck speeds over the simulation, a statement that I'm sure will infuriate a certain racing sim fan on this here staff.

After playing and reviewing the game and knowing Criterion's track record with churning out great new content for their titles (Burnout Paradise), I wondered just what could they add. Well, first there was the Super Sports pack. Now there are three new ones - Armed and Dangerous, Lamborghini Untamed and Porsche Unleashed - that will be releasing in consecutive weeks.

Armed and Dangerous will be the first to come out. This will contain all new modes for online (which, I may add makes me quite giddy). "Most Wanted" is a new take on things, as the cops are after a specific racers and instead of trying to always take out one another/leave a poor sap back for the wolves they will have to coordinate to play some defense. I'll be interested to see just how well racing teams work as I can't count the number of times they'll spike one another just to get some separation. "Arms Race" is an all out war of racers with full arsenals which I'm sure will be quite popular. This pack will be out next week, on the 22nd, and cost $6.99, but you can't put a price on fun (or trophies), can you?

The week after brings with it the Lamborghini Untamed pack. This will add three Lambos, the Diablo SV, Countach LP5000 QV and Sesto Elemento for both cops and racers. It also will have 10 new events and four trophies. From my experience everyone loves Lambos and they are the most popular vehicles in the game, so more can only be a good thing. This will also cost $6.99 and can be yours on March 1.

Finally, the third pack is titled Porsche Unleashed. Three cars will be in this one, too: 911 Turbo (1982 Edition), 959, and 911 Speedster. The Porsche 911 Turbo is particularly enticing as it is a high performance tier one car and should be perfect for taking down some of those pesky top times on your Autolog wall. This pack will also have 10 new events and four trophies, and like the others it will run $6.99. It'll drop on March 8 and wrap up the DLC for now.

I'm already looking forward to getting my hands on that 911 Turbo, but the new online modes are exactly what I was pining for. Hopefully my old racing friends I have on PSN will be cooperative for "Most Wanted" though I wouldn't be shocked to get spiked and totaled a third of a mile in.
