EA's Homecourt Advantage
The next-gen version of NBA Street finally has a proper title.
Published: October 31, 2006
As is often the case when games are first announced, EA didn't really have a final name for their next-gen continuation of the NBA Street franchise, but they've finally settled on one: NBA Street Homecourt. We're guessing the name is metaphorically tinged, seeing as the producers on the game feel they needed to go back to the series' roots and tap the strengths of what made the series the best arcade basketball game ever made, but it's also a very obvious nod to the fact that the game is all about building up respect on your own turf.
"NBA Street Homecourt gives fans the opportunity to play where legends were made, and will be made," giggled Dan Ayoub, lead producer on the product. "Every legendary player got his start somewhere and most of those roots are set in homecourts across the United States. The vision for the game's concept, visuals and gameplay all give a nod to those hometown courts, and will provide fans with an incredibly addictive and rewarding experience."
Unfortunately, we still don't know too much about the game itself. Yes, it will be next-gen -- particularly in the looks department (as [ps3media=129]the video teaser[/ps3media] has made obvious) -- but beyond that there isn't too much that's known about the project. Not that we mind, of course, the info will come in time, and it gives us ample opportunity to start cooking up a wishlist of what we'd like to see as the game makes the next-gen leap. As soon as we do get some concrete info, though, we'll make sure to pass it along.
