Konami Announces 1 Million Members For Metal Gear Online
Free reward points for those of you who actually tolerated Konami's online system for the game.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was a fantastic game and welcome release this summer, a time not usually known for blockbuster titles to be released. Whilst the game was absolutely fantastic however the current generation demanded more from such titles and thus the game shipped with Metal Gear Online, an evolution of the online segment found in the previous entry in the series. Many fans rejoiced and obsessed over videos of Japanese journalists fumbling through playtests of the game riddling floors and walls with bullets whilst bumping into enemies in barrels before their little virtual soldiers vomited.
There was one small complaint though, and this came in the form of many fans wondering what Konami was smoking when they figured this Konami ID/Game ID nonsense would be a good idea. Whilst it proved to be a frustrating system and turned some people off even touching MGO, it's managed to get 1 million players giving Konami much reason to celebrate. Whilst there's no doubt the number would be larger had they opted to simply use the PSN for the game, Konami has decided to reward it's loyal fans to help mark the occasion with the Metal Gear Online: Commemorative Campaign.
The campaign will begin on November 25th and will run until December 9th. Any players who own a Metal Gear Online account and access the game during this period will be rewarded with 10,000 reward points each. The 10,000 reward points will be updated to account owners on the last day of the campaign. Players who access the game during the Commemorative Campaign will also have a chance to be one of 30 people (10 people from each region, North America, Europe and Japan) chosen to receive an additional 100,000 reward points. The 100,000 reward points drawing will happen after the campaign ends and will be awarded the drawn winners on December 16, 2008.
Not bad eh? This will no doubt have a lot of players crawling out of the woodwork to make for a very good time to get into Metal Gear Online, especially with the MEME Expansion being released soon. For those of you who have not yet taken the plunge with MGO, Konami will also be offering a special GENE and MEME expansion bundle pack available at a special price of $14.99 this holiday season.
