Well, it isn't Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but who needs it when MvC 2 is still so fun. Never known for being the most balanced game, MvC 2 makes up for it with a HUGE range of fighters (56!) and 3 on 3 tag matches. The fourth entry in the Marvel vs. Capcom series of fighter, MvC 2 was first released in the arcades in 2000, and has since seen ports on the Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. This latest release adds HD graphics (well a nice visual filter that smoothes out the sprites so they look a little less ugly in HD) and features online play. All 56 chracters will be unlocked from the get go, so no need to get owrried you cant use Jill Valentine right away.

For this new release, Capcom added widescreen support in a very clever way. The backgrounds (remastered in HD) are in 16:9, but the playing field for the characters are confined to a 4:3 box, thus retaining the classic gameplay. All new online modes include Ranked Matches, Quarter Matches (as seen in SF2 Turbo HD Remix) which allows four people to watch and chat while two others fight.

I myself have TONS of memories playing this in the lobby of the theater I worked at after all the movies started, and even though I have never been more than a serial button masher I was able to hold my own and have a blast. With this new version I can't wait to get three of my friends together and have two of us provide color commentary while the other two brawl. Whether you are a fighting game newbie, or a Hori Arcade Stick owning master of the genre, MvC2 should be at the top of your download list come this August 13th!
