Capcom's Captivate Showcase Roundup

Whole lot of good stuff within.

Alright, we have to a lot to get into so I'm going to keep this brief. Capcom held Captivate, their annual media showcase in Rome, and showed off a lot of awesome things. Be sure to check out each game page so you can look at the screens and trailers!

So let's dive in. First up is the newly unveiled Lost Planet 3. I found its predecessor to be a hidden gem that many scoffed at because of review scores. This one will follow a guy named Jim, a utility rig pilot who has left Earth to take on a hazardous but lucrative contract on E.D.N. III. The game will feature the third-person run-and-gun action we've grown accustomed to, as well as first-person rig action. The game is still a ways away, seeing as it comes out in 2013, but I can already tell you if there's another bee gun I am totally there.

Resident Evil 6 is shaping up to be incredible. At Captivate the development team showed off one of Leon Kennedy's missions. In the game Leon and his partner, Helena Harper, attempt to find an escape route from the Ivy University campus. We already knew that the game was going to heavily lean on co-op but now we also know that the game follows Chris, Leon, and Jake Muller. Who is Jake Muller you may ask? Well, he's new and that's about all that we know at the moment! The game also has fully featured drop-in and drop-out play as well as a new HUD display and crosshairs instead of the RE laser pointer.

Also announced was the cross-platform play of Street Fighter X Tekken. Players will be able to go fist-to-fist with the PS3 version in what I hope becomes a trend. The Vita version will also have touch controls (obviously), local and Wi-Fi multiplayer plus Near functionality, and all of the content from the PS3 version.

The reboot of Devil May Cry made an appearance. Ninja Theory and Capcom Japan showed off a brand new level of DmC. This particular level featured a carnival near a pier where Dante lives. In it Dante goes toe-to-toe with a Hunter Demon who was tasked with tracking him down. The game is sure to have its skeptics but I look forward to getting more details and news in the coming months.

Dragon's Dogma and Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Collection also made appearances at the show. Dragon's Dogma is due out next month and while Monster Hunter fans bicker that it doesn't have co-op I will be happily playing it (though it would go a long way to include co-op Capcom, hint hint). Chronicles HD Collection brings over the popular Wii titles with PlayStation Move functionality and a fresh coat of HD paint.

Told you it was a lot! Anyway, please take the time to check out the trailers and screenshots because some of these may blow your mind. Capcom is looking at another strong calendar year and has a lot of big guns forthcoming.

Now if only we could do something about their DLC practices.
