Little Big Planet Hits 1 Million Levels – Teams With Marvel
I made a special level to commemorate this special event!
Published: July 27, 2009
OK, the reality is I TRIED to make a special level to commemorate this event, but instead I just ended up dicking around (GET IT!?) and made a giant penis instead. Here’s the thing though, I love LittleBigPlanet to death, but how on earth (GET IT?!) are you supposed to sort through 1 million levels when I can’t easily see more than about a dozen at a time on that confounding level select screen? Regardless, this is an amazing event, and for those of you that haven’t played too much (or any) LBP yet, hopefully this gives you the impetus to give it a try. The level creation system is amazing, and you can find levels based on classic video games (the Contra one is especially impressive), theme parks, and so many other things that it is silly to try and even list them at all here.
To give the one million user-generated levels milestone some context, this means that one new level has been published roughly every 21 seconds since LittleBigPlanet launched. Additionally, if a player were to play every user-generated level available on LittleBigPlanet, it would take that player almost 5 years playing 24 hours a day. In celebration of this significant milestone, and of the LittleBigPlanet community that has embraced the Play, Create and Share genre on PlayStation with open arms, Media Molecule has created a video. You can check it out here!
Hot on the heels of the millionth level being created, we have THIS exciting news (from Comic-Con, of course!). Sony Computer Entertainment and Marvel Entertainment officially announced that they will be collaborating to create original LittleBigPlanet content based on the Marvel Universe. The news was revealed yesterday at Comic-Con International in San Diego during Marvel’s panel discussion highlighting the next generation of Marvel video games. To help illustrate what might be in store for fans, concept art of possible costumes were shown incorporating Iron Man, Wolverine and Captain America, however other characters will be considered.
