The Killzone is Expanding
Two new maps complete with their own funky gameplay elements are coming to Killzone 2.

It has been said before in our review, in fact, but Killzone 2 has some phenomenal online play. The control issues we bitched about in the single-player game aren't as pronounced, the modes are all fun, and the character progression in ranks and classes was so addictive that until the game was patched, people were playing with bots just to rank up to unlock all those badges to create their red- or blue-lit future soldiers.
Ah, but Guerrilla Games isn't quite done ladling on the awesome just yet. As was recently announced on the PlayStation Blog, an incoming map pack, dubbed "Steel and Titanium" (after the two maps that'll be added to the rotation), the additions are a little more varied and strategic than the offerings that came on-disc. For one... actually, y'know what? Since we're the lazy types, we'll just let whomever worked hard on the descriptions at Sony do the talking here:
Wasteland Bullet, which pulls inspiration from the train level "Tharsis Refinery" in the single player campaign, takes the action right onto a high-speed bullet train that is used to transports goods and troops between Pyrrhus and the Wasteland. On the train, players must navigate through a narrow and treacherous tight layout, dodging oncoming obstacles, while facing off with the enemy on top of two high-speed moving trains. The action is frenzied and dangerous as players will be able to jump back and forth between the trains throughout the level, while maintaining focus and remaining aware because hitting a concrete pillar or other obstacles at the train’s high speeds could mean instant death!
In the second map, Vekta Cruiser, which is based on the “Cruiser” level from the single player campaign, players as the ISA troops find themselves in close quarters, boarding a vast ship. Their goal is to repel a force of assaulting Helghast troops while simultaneously protecting the cruiser from enemy fire. The action takes place entirely indoors in a frantic and claustrophobic environment where the battle against Helghast continues. Attackers are lurking around every so attention and focus is key.
Ahhh, see? Informative and all we did was Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V that sucker. Thanks, Sony! Luckily, if you've already heard about this stuff, we can clue you in on a somewhat newer development: the release date. The whole mess is coming this month on April 30th. Yes, Guerrilla loves you, and so do we. We'll see you in the game, just look for the idiot that can't manage to leap from one train to the other without smacking into an oncoming pole.
