Bethesda Bullies Budgets Bringing Bevy of Blockbusters
There really isn't a reason to close your wallet this year...
Published: January 27, 2011
As if there wasn't already enough happening this year... on top of all the sequels to award-winning games that are on the horizon, Bethesda just pegged the release date on 3 new IP's, and one sequel to a huge franchise themselves, all hitting in 2011. Clearly we are in the golden age of this generation of games, and gamers who like to partake in all the AAA titles might want to think about adding a second income (or getting a job reviewing games).
“We are thrilled to offer our fans such a strong roster of games,” said Vlatko Andonov, president of Bethesda Softworks. “We are particularly excited to present such a diverse lineup of high quality titles. 2011 will be a great year for gamers.”
Take a look below to see what the pride of Maryland has to offer:
Brink - May 17th
Splash Damage looks to make a, umm, splash with this dynamic FPS that seamlessly integrates single-player, co-op, and multiplayer action into an innovative experience. We played around with it quite a bit at PAX and we were completely hooked with what we saw then, and can't wait to see what 8 more months did for the game.
Hunted - June 1st
Developed by inXile Entertainment (and formerly known as Hunted: The Demon's Forge, this fantasy action game purports to offer a fresh take on the dungeon crawling experience with terrific co-op gaming. We also played around with this for a bit at PAX, and the co-op seemed very fleshed out and integral to the game, with some snappy dialogue to match.
RAGE - September 13th
A new FPS from one of the progenitors of the genre, RAGE is coming from the brilliant minds at id Software. Already having won awards like ‘Best Overall Game of Show’ at E3 from IGN, this intense FPS features breakneck vehicular combat, an expansive world, and, of course, jaw dropping graphics powered by the new id Tech 5 engine. If id's past releases are anything to go on, at the very least we will be seeing a showcase for this new tech, and there might even be a decent shooter under there with it.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - November 11th
Remember, remember the 11th of November, for that is the day we hopefully see the swan song for the Gamebryo engine. TES V: Skyrim continues the venerable tales of the world of Tamriel that started way back with Arena and Daggerfall on the PC and have since become a console staple. Not many other details are available yet other than the locale, but expect a more streamlined and (hopefully) less buggy experience.
Wow... that really is an impressive lineup Bethesda is bringing. May can't come soon enough!
