There's been a lot of talk about this little thing called Home that Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. has been putting together. Some might say it's something of a big deal. That's probably why Sony Computer Entertainment Japan announced today that it will begin PlayStation Home Open Beta Services within the calendar year. Yeah, something of a big deal.

For those in the know, you're well aware that there has been a closed beta test that's been well under way since late August of this year, which tested various areas of the service as well as games and events offered by the service such as the Namco Museum BETA from Namco Bandai Games Inc., echochrome and Destroy All Heros www from Sony Computer Entertainment. The final stages of the closed beta will take place in late October and early November. Next up: Open Beta!

Game lounges will pepper the service, special items will be obtainable via the "Home Rewards" system, and over two dozen game titles will use PlayStation Home's functionality to, hopefully, give users a more integrated experience. Thus far, 24 third party developers are lending support to PlayStation Home.

As for now, Sony is showing off PlayStation Home at the Tokyo Game Show. That should give folks a chance to taste a little bit of what the service has to offer. But look forward to getting into the real deal once the Open Beta starts. It'll be every PlayStation fan for him and herself.
