It wouldn't be a day ending in "y" if we didn't have more guitar game goodness. Today is no exception as MTV and Harmonix announced next weeks DLC for Rock Band. Get your gelatin and hair dye ready, because the closest thing to mainstream punk music is coming to your PS3 on Thursday with the Rancid track pack. Featuring two 90's classics and one song from their new studio album, fans will be pleased to press plastic frets to "Ruby Soho", "Time Bomb", and "Last One to Die". Their latest proteges, Rise Against, also get a track pack featuring "Prayer of the Refugee", "Re-Education", and "Savior". Indie rockers Kings of Leon will have a pack with "Crawl", "Molly's Chambers", and "Sex on Fire". Apparently not good enough to deserve their own pack, shoegazers Lush will have their song "Sweetness & Light" also added next week. Phew! Oh yeah, $5.49 for a pack, $1.99 for a song. You know.

If you keep saying to yourself, none of these packs is MY kind of music, well the Rock Band folks have some interesting news. Starting in late August, Harmonix is hosting an open beta of the new Rock Band Network that lets any artist take their music and create a Rock Band track that can be distributed through a special store. The catch? Of course there is one. All tracks must be created for the Xbox 360 first, and you have to have an XNA Creators CLub account. If the track pass peer review, they will be Xbox exclusives for the first 30 days before coming to the PSN. Still, this is an incredible step, and should drastically increase the content for Rock Band owners once the service goes live. More details to follow of course! Let's hope the review process is better than the one for Xbox community games, because sorting through 42 high school bands trying to find just one Pink Martini track could get frustrating. More info for sure as it comes in!

Guitar Hero owners, don't fret (GET IT!) of course you are getting some exciting news too! But first this weeks track pack (only one? tsk tsk), which comes from The Eagles of Death Metal (If I were the Eagles of Seventies Rock I would sue the pants off these guys) and their three tracks "Anything 'Cept the Truth", "Cherry Cola", and "I Only Want You". Ummm, Yay?

After last weeks announcement of a bunch of the tracks from the upcoming Guitar Hero 5, we are back with MORE tracks! Still no Elvis! But these 22 new tracks have been confirmed. At least we get Elton!
