Guitar Hero: World Tour, the fourth installment in the now legendary Guitar Hero franchise, came out late last year with the ultimate goal of taking back the music game crown from Harmonix and EA's Rock Band and Rock Band 2. Critics gave the game decent reviews though many thought it wasn't enough of an effort to beat Harmonix in terms of quality and style. Ultimately it wasn't the quality of the instruments - though a few busty drum sets and guitars were brought to our attention by early adopters of the game - which overall exceeded those of Rock Band 2, but rather the "not so good" choice of songs that hindered the title from becoming the new rock God in gaming heaven. Of course, in the end it came down to personal preferences and the DLC option certainly made it very easy to create a personal set list that fitted one's own taste in music. But this is not supposed to become a late review of Activision's music title, so lets get to the news:

Kicking off this weekend (that's starting today! Thank God for that...), Activision is offering standalone Guitar Hero: World Tour controllers in the form of drums and guitars. Like in the bundle packaging: The wireless drum controllers feature three, extra soft, velocity-sensitive drum pads which are supposed to deliver "that certain bounce, when struck with a drum stick that drummers are used to". Furthermore, two raised cymbal pads and a bass kick pedal add to the overall construction. One of the great things about this drum set is the fact that one can upgrade it with a second bass kick pedal so that those crazy expert drummers out there can fully simulate the madness of playing a Metallica song on expert level with two bass kick pedals being operated simultaneously.

That the Guitar Hero guitars have always been the best in terms of feel and overall quality is something that needs not to be repeated. For the record: They are! Even if you are playing Rock Band only, forget the guitars that come with it, do yourself a favor and get some Guitar Hero guitar controller action - (dude, that sentence is just plain wrong...).

Activision is also happy to let gamers know that those of you who are going to pre-order Guitar Hero Metallica will be rewarded with some really cool goodies. Pre-ordering at GameStop will get gamers an exclusive second Kick Pedal for free, doing so at Hollywood Video/Game Crazy will bless you with a pair of free Guitar Hero Metallica drumsticks and Best Buy customers will receive free bad-ass tattoo sleeves at launch.

Needless to say, more information on Guitar Hero Metallica and its quality can be found here at TotalPlaystation.com as soon as the word hits the street.
