Between A Flock of Seagulls and The Beatles, Liverpool has a pretty good track record, and Sony's Liverpool studio is looking to maintain the reputation with the release of Formula One Champion Edition, in stores today. Breathing new life into the series, players will have the opportunity to race in grueling weather effects brought to life with the clarity of HD with SIXAXIS motion support (or the traditional analog stick). Whether competing online with up to 11 human players or against single-player AI opponents (or a mix of the two), players will be able to choose from officially licensed cars and drivers of the Formula One Championship thanks in no small part to Sony's seemingly endless supply of money. Completing the package are live stats and rankings a la the GTHD Concept released in late 2006.

For those who want to give FOCE a shot but are unsure of the gameplay mechanics (after all, it's no Burnout), Susan Nourai of SCEA reassured us that the game is "accessible for the pick-up-and-play novice but also allows for a high level of customization that will even impress professional drivers." We can't say we're terribly surprised at such a comment, but you'll just have to check out the demo on the PlayStation Network to decide if that's the case.
