On February 27th the PlayStation brand kicked the year off with a phenomenal shooting experience: Killzone 2. Now almost two months after its official release the first sales numbers are slowly but steadily coming in. According to Sony over 1 million copies have been sold worldwide with the company calling it their “biggest initial success at retail of any first-party PS3 title to date”. But it's not only Killzone 2 that is generating spectacular media hype. SCEA's latest entry into the PlayStation exclusive baseball-sim franchise, MLB 09: The Show, has largely received great feedback from critics and sports fans alike.

According to SCEA one in three PS3 titles scores a Metacritic average of 80 points or higher. The company is also looking ahead at a bright looking future with titles like inFAMOUS, MAG, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, God Of War III, and Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time lining up for the current fiscal year looking to be even more successful for the PlayStation brand and its first and second party developers.

But its not just the PS3. The PlayStation 2 just can't seem to die. Wit a very impressive library of almost 1900 games in North America alone, and games like Motorstorm: Arctic Edge and MLB 09: The Show from first party publishing plus Ghostbusters: The Video Game and Guitar Hero Metallica from high quality third party publishing, the PS2 is still a fantastic family console that retails at $99.99 in North America.

And those of us that thought the PSP was on the edge of extinction need to think again! With first-party franchises like Motorstorm and LittleBigPlanet in development for the sexy portable, and third-party support seemingly picking up again (Rock Band Unplugged just to name a great example!) the system is looking at some great future titles. And on May 5th PSP owners can finally get their hands on Patapon 2 exclusively via download through the PlayStation Store. That's a lot of great news for the PlayStation brand. Oh, we almost forgot to acknowledge the greatness of the PSN: Currently offering its service in over 55 countries around the globe the PSN has more than 20 million registered users (Including 5 million Home users!).
