SCEA Gamers' Day 2007
Quite possibly the most impressive tri-platform showing in history just happened. Here's the skinny on everything shown and announced.
Published: May 17, 2007
We'll start with The System That Would Not Die: the PS2. For the better part of a decade now, the PS2 has happily chugged along and even now seems unaware that the next generation of hardware has hit. The tally of PS2 shipments worldwide has reached a staggering 115 million consoles, and Sony is plying that unheard of user base toward hooking the casual gamer in a way they've never done before (though, stunningly, the system still sells for a decidedly less-than-casual $100+).
[ Buzz! The Mega Quiz ]
[ Preview | Screens ]
Apparently quite popular across the pond, Buzz merges the instant hook of a game show with very slightly irreverent gameplay and a special Logitech controller that allows up to four people to play simultaneously. With only four colored buttons and a big red buzzer at the top, the barrier of entry is low indeed, which is the idea. The controller peripheral, however, will be used in future games, which brings us to...
[ Buzz Jr. Jungle Party ]

If Buzz is a game show, Jungle Party is a mini-game marathon. A smattering of quick-reaction set-ups and simple, easy to grasp competitions between up to four people (using the same Logitch-developed controller seen in Buzz), the idea is simple: be faster and smarter than the other guys. The thing seems tailor-made for the "loser takes a shot" college crowd, and we couldn't be more down with that.
[ Hot Shots Tennis ]

Developer Clap Hanz, not content with making the best golf games on any system (yeah, that's right, we're going there), has decided to take a stab at their particular brand of cutesy tennis, and the result, not surprisingly, is an almost instant understanding of the controls and tight, heated matches -- even between newcomers and pros.
[ Manhunt 2 ]
[ Preview | Screens ]
Rockstar Games' singular PS2 presence at the event should give you an indication of Sony's continued commitment to giving the boys at R* London a chance to show off what could possibly be the most depraved game ever created. New lead character, new storyline and of course all new gruesome ways to end the demented characters skulking their way through the game's new world.
