A while back, Monolith Productions and SEGA had a great idea: since the F.E.A.R. name was being held by Sierra, but Monolith had the actual rights to the characters and storyline, they needed to come up with a good name for the sequel that didn't actually involve the F.E.A.R. name -- even if it was a proper sequel.

Turns out they found the name: Project Origin, as voted on by the fans of the original game. Now, free of the F.E.A.R. name (which was fitting, but the full First Encounter Assault Recon name was a little sloppy), the tale of the demonic little girl Alma and her escape out into the general public can continue unabated.

"Project Origin is the name we can stand behind since it was picked by the gaming community, and this game marks a new beginning for the franchise," explains Samantha Ryan, Senior VP of Production and Development at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "With the consoles and the PC, we're dedicated to add a new game dynamic to the universe and build upon what the players loved about the original game."

"Our team really enjoyed letting the fans drive the naming process, and we are excited to expand upon the work we began in the original game and establish Project Origin as a premier gaming franchise in its own right," added Troy Skinner, Producer with Monolith Productions.

Actual details of just what the game will entail are still being held under lock and key, but as soon as Monolith and WBIE decide to spill it, we'll make sure you know.
