Yes there are other things besides Ratchet and Clank....

Continuing in our long tradition of bringing you the stories about games you might not have know are coming out, while ignoring the AAA stuff (and really, is there anything I can tell you about A Crack in Time that wasn't already covered in our preview and the million other stories out there about that?), I am pleased to announce a few new lesser known games that have hit/are about to hit shelves...

Inferno Pool - October 29th

This game might sound familiar to long time TPS readers. That's because our own Sam Bishop once took the plunge and downloaded the game from the Euro store. He liked it so much, they even stole a line from his review and used it for the press release for the US version, which hits the PSN this week!

“Inferno Pool” is a revolutionary arcade Pool/Billiards game where 1-4 local or online players battle to clear their tables while firing potted balls at opponents. Players can stockpile balls for a later onslaught, nominate their victims, and unleash devastating ball streaks and outrageous skill shots to trigger the punishing Inferno Mode. The game also includes classic 8 ball and 9 ball modes for 1-2 players, and the addictive race against the clock Endurance Mode.

"I haven't been so pleasantly surprised by a downloadable game in a long, long time."

- 8.5/10

With simple controls, incredible ball physics, and super-smooth gameplay, “Inferno Pool” is easy to pick up and play. However to become a true hustler players must master Combos, Bank Shots, Kick Shots, Jump Shots, and multiballs and unleash the devastation of Inferno Mode where potting power is doubled. Includes unlockable ball designs, scalable AI opponents, practice modes, selectable table designs, stunning 60fps HD graphics, online leaderboards and challenging trophies.

“Inferno Pool” also offers an Endurance mode where players try to sink balls under time pressure. Pool in HD! It's almost as good as real life!

Tekken 6 - OUT NOW

What can I say about Tekken 6? Dudes fight. And not just dudes. Kangaroos, Tree Stumps, Robot Ninjas, and a pedophile who has a lions head all brawl to see who can take down Heihachi (or whomever is the end boss now). Let's allow the PR departments to have their say...

TEKKEN 6 sees the return of many familiar faces and new characters to create the largest line-up in franchise history. Recreate the arcade experience at home by battling friends or AI-controlled opponents while amassing a wealth of items for customizing and strengthening characters in different modes including Versus, Time Attack, and Survival. Featuring dynamic and destructible environments, players will be able to test their virtual might by punching their enemies through concrete walls or kicking them through floors to open a whole new battleground. New to the series, the Scenario Campaign mode will allow players to progress through the story and mow down hordes of enemies while still enjoying fighting game action.

With full support via the PlayStation®Network, TEKKEN 6 includes a multitude of online features. Players can vie for global domination or just improve their fighting skills by battling opponents worldwide in online versus mode. Create and upload customized ghost characters, which replicate a player’s fight style, so any competitor from around the world can download them for one-on-one battles. Also an online co-op update for the game’s Scenario Campaign will be available this winter as a free post-launch downloadable content. In this mode, two players can jump into intense campaigns against AI controlled enemies and experience the dramatic large-scale action with friends around the world.

“TEKKEN 6 is the pinnacle of the long running King of Iron Fist Tournament and without question, delivers the best of the entire Tekken series”, said Todd Thorson, director of marketing and public relations at NAMCO BANDAI Games America, Inc. “TEKKEN 6 is the culmination of Namco Bandai Games unwavering commitment to excellence which has resulted into the ultimate fighting experience with amazing detailed graphics and robust online gameplay.”

Tekken 6 folks! It'll be here all week!

I have nothing to say. Sam says it is fun. Go out and spend $120-$200 and get your groove on. DJ Hero spins into stores.

Atlus Classics! - OUT NOW

Atlus has decided to release scads of their classic games as digital downloads for the PSP on the PSN. Rather than break them all down from you, here is the summary from the Atlus PR department, who are easily our favorite PR department (and not just because their PR guy has the same name as me!)

Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today broke from its supposed practice of undersupplying the retail channel and guffawing as fans desperately scramble to find one of only dozens of copies of a game by releasing a number of titles from its PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system library via PlayStation®Network: Crimson Gem Saga™, Hammerin' Hero™, Yggdra Union™, Steambot Chronicles Battle Tournament™, R-Type Command™, and Riviera: The Promised Land™. As digital downloads, the games no longer threaten fans with feelings of guilt and remorse for not pre-ordering or purchasing at launch, and instead now allow for pajama-clad living room shopping from an unlimited inventory.

"We've finally reached a point where, according to our physicians, any further laughing at our masterfully executed plan of never making enough copies of our games for everyone poses risks to our health," admitted Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales at Atlus. "In order to prevent illness, and because, hey, sometimes you just want to change things up, we're very pleased to offer PSP system classics via digital download. It may mean that we'll have to shut down our numerous online auction accounts, as we won't be able to hoard large quantities of our hard-to-find games and then slowly trickle them out at obscenely high prices anymore, but the end result will be better for everyone."

Oh the trickle of game never ends... but it does degrade into crappy cartoon franchise games...
