The DIRTy Details of Travis Pastrana

He's in that new Colin McRae game, y'know.

So here's something we weren't aware of: the Summer X Games have freakin' rally racing as an event. At first we were all up in arms about it, bitching and moaning about how the X Games were supposed to be about skateboarding and stuff... until we remembered that Motocross was there too, so rally racing (which is often off-road), certainly fits.

You know what else fits nicely into both of those last two kinds of racing? Travis Pastrana. The one-time star of Acclaim's awesomely bad McGrath vs. Pastrana has switched gears from his bike ridin' days and gone the way of the rally racer. Why not put him in what many consider to be the best rally racing game available? Yes, it would be wise to include the man in DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road.

It's perhaps because of his notoriety among American racing-minded gamers that he was included. Pastrana just took the gold in the rally event at the 12th Summer X Games, edging out McRae by a mere .53 seconds as McRae rolled his car through the last jump to clinch the title. Not bad for a guy that was previously known for doing a double back flip on his bike, eh?

"It was awesome to compete against McRae in this year's summer X Games and even better to win the first rally event in the series," squealed Pastrana. "I've admired Colin McRae for a long time and the McRae games have an incredible reputation as the best in their field. It's very cool to now be directly involved in the production of DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road and to be able to share my enthusiasm for rallying and off-road racing with gamers."

You'll have to wait until next year to see how the digital version of Mr. Pastrami (ho ho, we made fun of his name) races, but for now, take a peek at what appear to be the first actual screens of the game in action. Yes, they're from replays, and yes, they're still nummy as all hell.
