And Capcom acquires Blue Castle Games.

Capcom has got to be happy with Dead Rising 2 at this point. In a little over a month they've managed to ship over 2,000,000 copies of the new title. Capcom also reports that this brings the Dead Rising franchise total (shipped worldwide) to over 4,000,000. The game itself has received pretty positive reviews all around and the steady stream of DLC promises to keep gamers interested for a little while. Our very own Aram Lecis and Scott Rogers scored the game, total, as 8 out of 10. If you haven't had a chance to read their review, check it out here. In a stroke of creativity they laid it out like a diary. Pretty cool guys!

Back to the point at hand however, Capcom has reported today that they've taken the success of Dead Rising a step further. At the Tokyo Games Show they announced the intent to buy (read acquire) the developer of Dead Rising 2: Blue Castle Games. Today Capcom tells us that the acquisition has been ratified by the Canadian government and the green light has been given. This new wholly owned subsidiary will hence forth be known as Capcom Game Studio Vancouver. While Blue Castle's website hasn't been updated with any announcement or indication of opinions, they can only be described as successful. Back in 2008 they won a Elan award for Best New Video Game Company. You may remember their big first hit back in 2007 - a baseball arcade game called The Bigs. And with a large number of their developers coming from EA Games, Blue Castle had a leg up on the competition.

It would seem that a development like this means that the Dead Rising series will be around for at least one more game, if not more. But that's obviously just speculation from this writer. Not that Blue Castle wouldn't be a half-way decent acquisition though. Their track record is pretty good with only one dud on the roster - Major League Baseball Front Office Manager. And with a staff that grew from 12 people to 170 people, they clearly have some idea of what they're doing. So for those Dead Rising fanboys out there - this is a very good sign. In the meantime, the rest of us will just have to wait and see.
