It speaks to the strength of Infinity Ward's programming skills that the PS3 version of Call of Duty 4 is identical to the 360 and PC versions, but it's even more telling that we finally have a competition that is using the PS3 version of a multiplatform game in serious virtual throwdowns. Of course, the 360 version of COD4 is being used too, but the Global Gaming League is letting PS3 gamers get in on things too.

The 4v4 tourney opens today, with practice sessions going until December 9th while teams gear up for the proper competition which starts on the 10th. The points-based ladder competition works by simply recording the end-game scores to determine the winners. Each 4 person team squares off against others in the ladder until one team remains, with the 64 best players at the end of the practice round going into it for real.

So what's up for grabs? The winning team on the 360 and PS3 (you can choose one platform, but only one) will be given a set of DVDs, a new 32" LCD HDTV and a 5.1 surround sound system. That's per teammate, which we have to admit is a pretty sweet prize. The full details of the competition, as well as registration and rules can be found by just clicking this link.

Good luck!
