[Revenge of the Releases] August 5th

Arkham Asylum demo, and... well... some other things...

Welcome to Revenge of the Releases (as it’s known this week), our weekly notice of all them thar games that ship from publishers to retailers in preparation for their street date a day or so later. In many cases, these games won't be on store shelves (or the PSN) until tomorrow, but in the interest of getting the word out, letting the PR departments have their fancy quotes and saving us sanity as the weekly releases pile up, we're going to be consolidating everything down into one handy little news story at the end of the day, along with this description. Neat, eh? And lazy!

It's the TPS way.

[PlayStation 3]

[BlazBlue : Calamity Trigger]
In case you missed out on the first run of the anime0styled 2D fighting masterpiece known as BlazBlue, fear not. A second printing is hitting stores, and while it lacks the bonus disc of the first printing, it still retains all the fighting-game goodness. Get pumped up with this quote from the company.

"We are very proud to be releasing the 'I-don't-need-a-tutorial-disc-edition' of BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger," says Gail Salamanca, Director of Marketing, Aksys Games. "This no-frills edition let's you get right to the game without that extra box and clutter getting in the way of what really matters-the awesome that is BlazBlue."

Gotta love professional marketing departments!

[Batman : Arkham Asylum]
No, don’t get your hopes up. It isn’t the full game. But the demo will be finding it’s way onto the PSN tomorrow afternoon, and you better be there to download it. Unless you want a pencil shoved through your eye. You don’t want that, do you? The full game hits on the 25th.

The Batman: Arkham Asylum™ demo opens as the DARK KNIGHT and COMMISSIONER GORDON return The Joker back into confinement at ARKHAM ASYLUM. But things soon fall apart as THE JOKER gains the upper hand and springs a trap, setting Arkham Asylum’s occupants upon Batman. The demo offers gamers a taste of the fierce FreeFlow™ combat system, the cunning stealth of the Invisible Predator™ mechanic, and the feeling of becoming the WORLD’S GREATEST DETECTIVE as they navigate Arkham Asylum’s imposing Intensive Treatment facility. Players can unlock character bios, as well as get a sneak peak at some of the infamous foes that BATMAN will encounter within the cavernous and macabre confines of Arkham Asylum.

[ Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars ]
Wow, an actual competitor for Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What Did I Do To Deserve This? as my favorite unwieldy title of the last year. If you are a fan of SAR-PB-C then good news for you! Free content is hitting the PSN in the form of a feature packed update and two new arenas. Let’s let the good folks over at Psyonix tell you more…

Amongst the list of features included in this update which will include improved network performance, a host of new replay features and friend matching, Battle-Cars combatants will be pleased to know that Psyonix Studios has also decided to release 14 new vehicle skins and two brand-new arenas at no additional cost to the user. This brings the total number of Battle-Car arenas from four to six.

Get ready to set sail for the high seas with "Galleon," one of two free arenas included in the latest update. In Galleon, players will have to put their Battle-Cars skills to the ultimate test as they rocket down the deck of a larger-than-life pirate ship while avoiding the large sail masts and keeping their eyes firmly locked on the goals which are embedded into the hull of the ship.

Battle-Cars players will also have the opportunity to swap out their sea legs...er sea wheels, and head for land as they drop the clutch on some freshly cut green grass in "Stadium." Rocket down this traditional soccer field and shoot for the goal as a dynamic crowd cheers you on. Both arenas are sure to make for some jaw-dropping replays which can be saved and shared using the in-game video editor and then uploaded directly to YouTube™ for all to see.

[PlayStation 2] and [PlayStation Portable]

Zippo this week -- at least as far as press releases are concerned. What can you do, it’s summer?

Publishers: want to make sure we've got your games in our weekly Shipping Out blurbs? Just kick over those shipping press releases to Shipping Out (at) TotalPlayStation (dot) com and we'll make sure they get tossed into the rotation.
