[E3 2009] Rockstar Recruits Agent for PS3

Ohhhh, so this is that exclusive R* PlayStation 3 game they were talking about.

Though it was little more than a blip and two logo slides during Sony's E3 press conference, the confirmation of a new game from the folks behind Grand Theft Auto was nonetheless a big one. Granted, we would have liked to have seen something more about the game, and having Jack Tretton, as likeable as he is, merely gloss over the fact that the game was in development, didn't carry nearly as much weight as having someone from Rockstar themselves (like, say, the Houser brothers) come out to actually unveil the game. Guess they've gotta save something for next year.

This isn't exactly a new revelation. Back when GTA IV was revealed as an Xbox 360 game -- and one with "exclusive" content (it's coming to PS3 eventually, don't worry) -- in addition to being a traditionally PlayStation-first franchise, Jack Tretton teased that Sony had inked a deal for an exclusive of their own with Rockstar on a new IP. That IP? Agent.

The only details of the game thus far are that it's not a GTA as such, and that it'll take "players on a paranoid journey into the world of counter-intelligence, espionage and political assassinations during the height of the Cold War at the end of the 1970s." Or so says Rockstar.

"We have always enjoyed making action games, and with Agent we are making what we believe will be the ultimate action game," squealed Rockstar Games Founder Sam Houser. "Agent is a game we have wanted to make for a long time. The team in Edinburgh is doing an amazing job combining intense action, atmosphere and story in a great period setting to create something that feels quite unique. We cannot wait for people to experience this game."

Nor can we, Sam. Nor can we. As soon as we can experience the game -- or even just get something beyond the logo -- you'd better believe we'll be all over making sure you know about. Of course, in typical TPS fashion, it'll probably also be six weeks later than everyone else.
