BVG’s Epic Licensing Deal

Licensing deals don’t really get us all aflutter these days, especially when it’s something concerning Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3. After all, you really need only look at some of the stuff Epic’s making with it (like the only actual real-time demonstration of the PS3 at E3) to see that their work at crafting a new engine is head and shoulders above what’s being offered as a complete development platform.

Well, add yet another developer to the licensing fold. Buena Vista Games (aka BVG if you’re hip and fond of initials) will be using the uberengine in their upcoming next-generation projects. This in an of itself isn’t anything particularly amazing, but the first real, concrete announcement is a little game called Turok being developed by Propaganda Games, maybe you’ve heard of it?

“We have ambitious goals for the future and a strategy to enhance Buena Vista Games’ position as a major force in interactive entertainment. BVG’s intellectual properties, combined with Epic’s leadership in underlying technology, ensures the best game content for consumers,” gushed Michael Ryder, BVG’s vice president of worldwide production.

“Licensing Unreal Engine 3 is a strategic move to provide cost-effective and timely delivery of new content, allowing our development teams to leverage the enormous capabilities of emerging next-generation systems,” he added before someone else piped up.

Mark Rein, Epic VP and Co-Founder, chimed in, “BVG has some awesome IP to work with and we feel privileged to contribute to its success. It’s great to be working with the Propaganda Games team, an amazingly talented group of people, and with a management team that appreciates the importance of providing its teams with the best tools and technology to help them deliver. We have no doubt that BVG will be one of the big success stories of the next generation.”

And there you have it. Kind words all around and more news on what the next-gen version of Turok will be using as the base. Anyone else getting excited?
