Turok Lives!
Acclaim's alien-trouncing brave is back, and he's found a new home.

Early in the life of the Nintendo 64, back when developers still thought it wise to try to deliver a first-person shooter controlled by a single analog stick and liberally threw jumping puzzles at gamers, the now-deceased Acclaim released Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. Despite more fog than a San Francisco morning in mid-July, the game did rather well, spawning a handful of sequels that slowly pulled the Acclaim-owned video game Turok away from his roots.
Yeah, that's right, Turok had roots. Deep ones.
The Turok character begin life back in 1954 as part of a comic book chronicling his accidental discovery of a prehistoric valley during a botched hunting expedition with friend Andar. Yes, they were fond of those kooky names in the 50's. Acclaim purchased the property, started kicking out comics and made a few bucks off of the subsequent games before hemorrhaging money and imploding, and most thought that the taint of Turok would last long into the digital afterlife.
It would appear that's far from the case. Buena Vista Games has resuscitated ol T', and will be using him as the basis of an all-new game developed by up-and-comers Propaganda Games. Headed up in Vancouver and based around some of the key players that helped create the Def Jam and NBA Street franchises while at EA, Propaganda will be working on rounding out the tail end of this generation's system and handhelds, as well as the next-gen entries.
"With the launch of the new console and handheld game platforms, we feel it is the perfect time to redefine Turok video games," boasted BVG's Senior VP and GM, Graham Hopper. "We expect Turok to lead our growth strategy of creating action-oriented game franchises for the core gamer market."
Leslie Levine, vice president of licensing and consumer products at Classic Media, piped in with her own two cents, saying, "BVG is committed to building Turok into one of their cornerstone franchises to reach the core gamer through exciting new platforms. We couldn’t ask for a more enthusiastic team to develop Turok."
“Through compelling new technology, game design and graphics, it is our goal to take the Turok franchise to new heights," offered Propaganda VP and Studio GM Josh Holmes. "The brand’s rich, prehistoric setting and ferocious monsters provide us an extensive palette of content to create the most intense, action-packed game play for next generation console systems."
Yes, next-gen. Specifically next-gen. Does this mean Turok on PS3? Hell if we know, but it's probably safe to assume that we'll find out awfully quick. When we do, you know.
