The Beginning of the EndWar
A World War III strategy game set in the Tom Clancy mythos? Sure, why not?

Some have started rightly accusing Ubisoft of becoming the next EA, pumping out endless sequels in the tireless pursuit of them cold, hard greenbacks. Though they haven't quite contracted Madden-it is just yet, the near-constant stream of Tom Clancy-branded games is getting to be a little much. Maybe it's just that us PlayStation gamers have always been shafted by getting coding efforts of the project by Ubisoft's red-headed stepchild, the Shanghai studio. It's not that they can't code a decent port, it's just that... no, wait, that's exactly the problem; if it's a port to a PlayStation platform, chances are it's going to be comparative crap.
But what if the folks at the Shanghai studio just needed their own project? Y'know, something that isn't just a hurried hand-me-down project from the big brothers in Montreal or Paris. Well, we're going to finally find out just that as the team preps for their first solo gig, the mysteriously titled EndWar. See, it's all based on WWIII and... um... yeah, well, that's all we know aside from the fact that it's a strategy game. If only we had an overly enthusiastic quote from someone at Ubisoft. Oh hey!
"Our development teams are invigorated to be creating the first 100 percent next-generation Tom Clancy brand,” giggled a gleeful Serge Hascoët, CCO at Ubisoft. "Our success with Tom Clancy franchises is unparalleled in the next-generation and Tom Clancy's EndWar will be a marvelous addition to the already critically acclaimed library of games. A strategy game like no other, EndWar will allow gamers to lead their own armies against hundreds of others online in real global locations on the massive battlefields of World War III.”
The game isn't planned for a release until some time at the end of Ubisoft's fiscal 2007 year, which puts it in early 2008. As soon as we have screens or more info or anything solid, we'll make sure to pass it along.
