Shivering Isles DLC Inbound?

Bethesda updates their official blog with a definitive... "maybe."

Though it got off to a rocky start, the PlayStation Network isn't without some form of downloadable content extras. Sure, we've seen plenty of late-release games that just shipped with all the DLC from the Xbox 360 and PC versions -- stuff like GRAW2[/I] and [game=1065]Rainbox Six: Vegas from Ubisoft and of course Oblivion shipped with the Knights of the Nine expansion right one the disc -- but there have been a few notable examples of honest-to-goodness DLC. New modes have been added to [game= 1135]Ninja Gaiden Sigma[/game] and of course some add-ons in the form of the Advanced Research pack for Blast Factor have helped extend the game past the initial release.

It's Oblivion in particular, though, that has been the source of at least one major expansion in the form of The Shivering Isles, and another one, Fighter's Stronghold, is hitting the PC and 360 next week (for free no less -- at least for that first week). With Shivering Isles, though, the future of the PS3 release has been a little murkier. The 360 version of the expansion will actually ship to stores next week, and if you haven't yet picked up Oblivion, you can get the Game of the Year Edition for PS3 next week, which includes Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine. But what about folks that already bought Oblivion on PS3 and just want SI? Help is coming... hopefully.

" Since we’re talking about DLC, I thought I’d update you with what’s going on with the PS3 version of Oblivion," explains Bethesda PR head honcho (and all around swell chap) Pete Hines on their official blog. "We are close, very close to working something out to bring Shivering Isles to PS3 owners. That may be in downloadable form via PSN, or as a standalone retail disc, or both. I can’t say definitively yet that it will happen, and I definitely can’t say when. But it’s looking good, and hopefully we’ll have good news soon. Don’t have anything I can tell you about any other DLC, but Shivering Isles is the one we get asked about all the time, so I at least wanted to update folks on that."

Hardly concrete, but hey, it means that there's a decent chance that yet another PS3 game could get a little more life after the release. We'll keep you updated if we hear more.
