[Pre-E3 2006] The First Rule of The Club Is...

...You talk about The Club a couple days before E3.

After a couple of extremely successful games for Microsoft, one would be forgiven for thinking that Bizarre Creations was in Microsoft's pocket as a 2nd party developer on the level of Insomniac Games or Naugty Dog with Sony. They aren't -- at least not completely -- and though Geometry Wars and all three Project Gotham Racing have made MS a few bucks, one shouldn't forget that PGR started out as Metropolis Street Racer, which was a Dreamcast Launch title. Bizarre has been cozy with SEGA in the past.

And now, it would appear, they've returned to the house that Sonic built, with something called The Club which is something of a third-person shooter set in huge urban environments -- quite the departure from the racing games the developer has become known for. Still, that doesn't mean they're all about racing, and The Club is an effort to prove that.

"Here at Bizarre Creations we feel The Club brings the pillars of classic SEGA gameplay bang up to date for the next generation of hardware, gaming and gamers," commented Martyn Chudley, Bizarre's Managing Director. "We are truly excited by the prospects of this game and of our partnership with SEGA."

"The Club simply delivers that visceral thrill of high-stakes gambling and tosses in a heavy dose of frenzied gunplay," kissed back Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing at SEGA of America. "Bizarre Creations has a incredible track record and now they bring the innovation, both technical and creative, shown in the racing genre and have applied it to the shooter category."

Since they clearly know more about the game than we do, we'll let the guys that whipped up a description of the game tell the tale. And yes, this means we only wrote about two paragraphs of this news story; it's almost 1AM and we've been doing this for 16 hours now, okay?

The Club is a loosely organized and highly illegal underground entity. For most people, The Club exists only as an urban legend - a game where criminals are paid huge amounts to carry out gunfights and where online spectators view, gamble and cheer them on in a deadly game of skill. Yet the rumours are true. People are getting rich. People are dying. The first task is to survive, but according to their rules - quickly, relentlessly and with style.

See? Now you're probably about as psyched as we are to see the game. SEGA is showing it off behind closed doors at E3 this year, and we're going to bum rush the booth to see if we can get a peek at what the UK-based developer. More when we get it!
